Goal: To raise several hundred dollars to purchase high-quality children's books in Hindi, Bengali, English and Urdu for aChildren International Community Center in India that serves over 3,000 children living in poverty.
Goal Update: With the $257 raised so far, 97 books were purchased in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and English. This first shipment of books will go to the "potted plants center" that Neha and about 3,000 visit as their CI Comunnity Center. Photo updates to come!

Plan: After an initial amount of about $200 in donations have been raised, the first group of books will be purchased through an Indian book publisher Tulika books. This company has extremely reasonable prices and free shipping to the city of Kolkata, where CI works. CI will receive the books and send them to the center, where they will be used at the community center playroom and library.
How to Help: Donations of any amount are welcome-- just $15.00 can purchase 5-6 books.
Children International has now made it possible to donate directly to CI for the book initiative! By donating directly, the amount can be used towards tax refunds as well as feel secure for those who may not feel comfortable donating to a random stranger.
Additionally, the donation initiative can run over time, allowing enough to be donated to purchase books for ALL the community centers in India. The Staff in India will order the books, and work on building a relationship with Tulika Book Publishers that may allow them to get them at a discounted rate in the future. Additionally, I hope they can influence them to publish more of their books in Urdu as well!
To donate by mail or phone to CI, let them know that the donation is for "CP- Sahay Library Books". If donating on the website, donate the amount under the "emergency fund" section. You will get an email receipt, reply back to this receipt, stating that the funds be used for "CP- Sahay Library Books" and you are all set!

Update: July 13,2011:
I received an email today from Tulika that the books have reached their destination! How exciting. Four books were no available, and a refund of 470 rupees will be made to my account. ($10.60, about). I will use this money to pay for more books, after I hear back about this order.
Donation Updates:
The total has already surpassed my hope for the first section at $257.00. I am so excited, and will begin the process of purchasing books in the next couple of days for the $257 dollars. I will post a list of all the wonderful books purchased with the donations as well as updates. Once these books have been received by the center (as well as any feedback), I will work on continuing to raise the remainder of the funds for the project.
